Meet the Team

Amanda van Huyssteen

Clinical dietitian RD (SA)

B. Sc DIETETICS (NWU 1981)

I graduated from North-West University in 1981 and after completing my practical year, I started work in JG Strydom hospital (now Helen Joseph hospital). After 5 years I started a small private practice, whilst raising my 3 sons. The practice has grown immensely over the years to being well-known and trusted by many health professionals and patients in the area.

I believe that consistent quality service to our supporting doctors and their patients, a passion to make a positive difference to the health of every person crossing our paths and to remain focused on practising within scientific research outcomes is key to the longevity of a dietetics practice.

I choose to change the saying……

“You are what you eat.”

TO…..

“YOU BECOME WHAT YOU EAT!”

I graduated from North-West University in 2017. I spent a majority of my career at the biggest government hospitals in South-Africa, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, where I discovered and evolved my passion for babies and young children. I attained quality experience in all aspects of dietetics and strive to continue my knowledge in the field.

I spend my free time with family and friends, sharing moments and cherishing close bonds. I recently started to enjoy camping as it is a chance for me to trade city lights for starlit skies and embrace the beauty of nature.

What I love most about what I do is being able spread knowledge that inspire people to feel good and achieve goals in a sustainable way.

I graduated from the North-West University after which I had the privilege of completing my practical year at Helen Joseph Hospital.

I have an immense passion for critically ill patients that do not always have a voice themselves. My passion also extends to oncology patients and patients with renal dysfunction.

I love counselling patients’ post-surgical interventions and most of all providing knowledge on optimal nutrition. I believe that transformation happens with lifestyle change and adapting good habits. I strive to empower patients with the knowledge to sustain a healthy lifestyle.

I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics at the North-West University in 2011. After completion of my community service year at Thebe District Hospital in Harrismith where I gained extensive experience in community nutrition, I decided to move to the city to gain further exposure and experience in clinical nutrition.

I am passionate about nutrition and how it can positively affect a person’s health and overall wellbeing. I believe that dietitians can empower patients with the knowledge needed to achieve their goals and to navigate the challenging road to lifestyle changes necessary to optimize their health.

My fields of interest include feeding of the critically ill patient, digestive as well as gastro-intestinal disorders, and the nutritional management of lifestyle diseases. I also love to help patients with general healthy eating or weight loss by educating, supporting, and motivating them as they embark on their journey to make better food choices to improve their overall health and lifestyle. I believe that balance and moderation is the key for healthy eating and that exercise should always be incorporated in a healthy lifestyle.
